Common Water Heater Problems

There is a plethora of problems that water heaters encounter over their lifetime, and the most common ones are the following:

  • Leaks – If you observe puddles of water under or near your water heater tank, then it is likely that you have a leak. Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast solution to a leaking water tank as it promotes rust buildup which compromises the tanks structural integrity. As such, replacing you water heater is the best answer to this particular problem.
  • Rust – Because of its constant exposure to water, tanks have the tendency to develop rust overtime, especially if the tank is set on or near to the ground. If there is severe rusting, installing a new water heater is your only option.
  • Temperature – Problems with the water being too hot or too cold will mean that the heating component of your water heater is broken. Fortunately, such problems are pretty minor, and can be solved by simple replacing the damaged mechanism with a new one. This is something which you can actually do, but we’d still love to teach you how if you want us to.
  • Unusual Noises – There are two main causes of this problem. One, the sediment buildup inside the tank is burning as the water heats up, and two, the heating mechanism is burning and bound to stop working. This can be dealt with by flushing the tank clean to remove the sediment buildup, but if the sound continues after this, then it may be time to replace your water heater.

There are many other problems that you may experience with your water heaters, from busted pilot lights, rust colored water coming out, or even the water smelling like rotten eggs. No matter what the problem, American Rooter is here to help. So don’t hesitate to call us.

Our friendly staff is available 24/7 to take your calls. We look forward to serving you, Council Bluffs!
